AT&T Wireless and 10Best have developed a location based service that works in many areas of the United States today. "What Have I Done?"
The AT&T/10Best procedure did two important things:
Step 14. Push the 'scroll down' key one time - until "Explore Around Me" is highlighted.
Selecting this item sends a request to the network for a location reference - think address, mapsco square, coordinates, or cell site. The phone is essentially asking the network, "Hey, tell me where I am?"
Step 17. Push the 'scroll down' key three times - until "Share your approximate location with 10Best Explorer?" "Yes, This One Time" is highlighted.
Selecting this item sends the location reference to 10Best, as if it were, say, a zip code in a weather program. 10Best then finds all the information on their database about what is around you and then presents it.
You can find out where you are, and you can ask the network what it knows about that spot... or any spot you anticipate going to.
If the data is presented in a way that allows you to lose resolution and still know when you cross boundries, then a residence time can be calculated...
